Open a KML or KMZ file right here and see the route it contains — distance, track points, start and end. Your file never leaves the browser. One click more and the same track opens on a 3D map.

What's a KML file?

The map format Google Earth made famous

KML (Keyhole Markup Language) stores places, routes, and shapes for map software; KMZ is the same thing zipped. Google Earth reads and writes it, and so do most GPS and planning tools. With Google Earth Pro's desktop app on its way out, a browser-based way to peek inside these files is handy to have bookmarked.

Need the file in a different format? The free converters handle KML to GPX, KMZ to KML, and KMZ to GPX. And if the route deserves more than a look, the editor turns it into a 3D animated map video.

Questions

KML viewer FAQ

Is this KML viewer free?
Yes, completely. Viewing, stats, and the 3D preview cost nothing. AvoMap makes money when people export videos, so the tools stay free.
Does my file get uploaded?
The file is parsed in your browser. Only if you click through to the 3D view does the extracted route (not the original file) get sent to create the preview.
Can it open KMZ files too?
Yes — KMZ is a zipped KML, and the viewer unpacks it automatically. Just drop the .kmz in.
Can I see the route on a real map instead of an outline?
Yes. After the file loads, "View in 3D" opens the same track over satellite terrain in the AvoMap editor, where you can also render it as a video.
