How toDownload Your AllTrails Recap As A Full-Length Video

AllTrails' Trail Recap is a 12-second flyover, it needs a Peak membership, and there is no way to save it as a file. Export the GPX of the hike instead, open it in AvoMap, and download a video of the whole trail in up to 4K. You pick how long it runs.

Step 1

Export The GPX From AllTrails

This works on alltrails.com with a free account. The app can share a Recap but has no export button, so on a phone open the website in your browser.

  1. Open alltrails.com and log in.

  2. For a hike you recorded, go to Profile > Activities. For a route you planned or saved, go to Saved > Maps.

  3. Open the activity or route you want as a video.

  4. Click the three-dot menu above the title, then Download route.

  5. Pick GPX track and save the file. That file holds every point of the hike, with the elevation.

Step 2

Import The Hike Into AvoMap

  1. Open the AvoMap editor , or click Create Your Video in the bar at the top of this page.

  2. Click Select Your GPS File and choose the GPX you just downloaded. The trail appears on the 3D map.

  3. Set the map style, the camera and how long the video should run. Press Play to preview it, as often as you like.

  4. Click Create Video in the top right corner and let it render.

  5. Download the MP4. It is yours to post, send or keep.

Recap Or Full Video?

The Recap is fine for a quick share from your phone. It stops being enough the moment you want the file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download an AllTrails Recap as a video?

No. An AllTrails Trail Recap plays in the app and can be shared to Instagram or TikTok from the phone, but AllTrails does not offer it as a file, and it covers about 12 seconds of the hike. To keep the whole hike, export the GPX and render it as an MP4 in AvoMap.

How do I export a GPX file from AllTrails?

On alltrails.com, go to Profile, then Activities, open the activity, click the three-dot menu above the title, choose Download route and pick GPX track. Saved routes export the same way from Saved, then Maps. The AllTrails app has no export, so use the website in your phone's browser.

Do I need AllTrails Peak to make a video of my hike?

No. Trail Recaps and 3D maps are AllTrails Peak features, but exporting the GPX of your own recorded hike works with a free AllTrails account, and the AvoMap editor is free too. Downloading a trail someone else published can ask for a membership; your own recordings never do.

How long can the AllTrails video be?

As long as you want. A Recap is fixed at about 12 seconds, while in AvoMap you set the duration per segment, so a four-hour hike can play in 20 seconds or in two minutes. The camera speed follows the duration, and the elevation profile animates at the same pace.

Does the video show the elevation of the trail?

Yes. The GPX from AllTrails carries the elevation of every point, and AvoMap draws the trail over 3D satellite terrain, so a climb looks like a climb. One click adds an animated elevation profile with the gain and loss of the hike.

How much does a video of an AllTrails hike cost?

Previewing the hike in AvoMap is free, with every map style and camera setting open. A finished 1080p MP4 costs one render credit, 4K costs two, and credits start at $9 for five videos. There is no subscription, and the AllTrails GPX export is free as well.
